BENT AND LINEAR GEOMETRIES OF RENNER–TELLER PAIR STATES IN CO2 PROBED BY TRIPLE-ION-COINCIDENCE MOMENTUM IMAGING

2002
The C 1s-12πu1Πu state of a linear molecule CO2 splits into two states. The lower state becomes bent and the upper state remains linear. As a direct probe of this Renner–Teller effect, the bent and linear geometries of the Renner–Teller pair states have been probed by means of triple-ion-coincidence momentum imaging.
