Numerical Simulation Study on Penetration Performance of an Armor-piercing Bullet

Based on the effect of the shape of rod armor-piercing warhead on armor penetration,a new armor-piercing bullet whose head structure is the combination of multilayer armor-piercing blocks and amour-piercing ring was designed.Using LS-DYNA,the penetration against three-layer spaced metal plates was numerically analyzed.Through analyzing penetration performance under different velocities,it can be found that the bullet has a large-scale adaptive velocity and the intensity of compress stress wave is reduced;the second projectile is well protected and the ricochet trend is weakened effectively.The simulation results are referable to bullet design.
