A Trehalose Derivative in Hemolymph of the Differential Grasshopper

1966
Randall and Derr (1965) showed that trehalose was the principal sugar in the hemolymph of the differential grasshopper, Melanoplus differentialis (Thomas), in which it constitutes 93% of the free, neutral sugar. In 1962, in the course of their investigation, they fed commercially grown lettuce to the test grasshoppers, where-upon a new sugar appeared in the blood. Concurrently with the appearance of the new sugar the percentage of trehalose fell to 63%.
