Shipmasters in the Shipping between Amsterdam and the Baltic 1722–1780

The aim of this study is to shed more light on the provenance of the captains sailing from the Baltic to Amsterdam in the eighteenth century. Where were those shipmasters domiciled? How did the pattern of provenance develop over time? Were captains from certain regions specialized in the sailing to certain ports? Was there a relationship between the domicile of the shipmaster and the cargo-carrying capacity of his vessel?
