Regeneration effects of Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide on alveolar bone defects

2011
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide techniques in treating alveolar bone defects due to periodontitis.METHODS: Forty-eight patients with bone defects due to periodontitis were chosen in this clinical trial. In the experiment group Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide were placed in the areas with alveolar bone defect, while in the control group only Bio-Guide was used. The patients were followed up at three, six, nine and twelve months after operation. The response of Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide was evaluated with clinical parameters,X-ray examination and CT measurement.RESULTS: The Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide could accelerate the bone regeneration for periodontal bone defect, which was more effective than the Bio-Guide.New bone formation could be observed at periodontal bone defect, which was close to around jaw bone.CONCLUSION: The Bio-Oss and Bio-Guide have strong biological compatibility and can effectively guide regeneration of new bone.
