Antecedents and Consequences of Formal and Informal Voice

Research on both formal (i.e., required) and informal (i.e., discretionary) voice has attracted significant amount of interest over the past decade. Although so far different literatures have identified various antecedents and consequences of this construct, inconsistent findings largely due to different operationalization of the construct in different literatures, highlight the need for new research to identify existing empirical and theoretical gaps and opportunities. This symposium seeks to provide empirical evidence and theoretical development to advance our knowledge of antecedents and consequences of formal and informal voice as well as underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions of these effects. Following the presentations of four empirical papers we intend to engage in an insightful group discussion that will contribute to the existing research on voice and will offer directions for future research."
