The human aspects of information retrieval systems for sharing biomedical research

1993
Just as online access to remote information databases has engendered new social and scientific behaviour, other aspects of information technology, such as the increasing use of electronic networks, are modifying human methods of access to information. Electronic mail and public and private bulletin boards are changing the way in which human beings communicate with each other and share information. However, no international standards of use have been developed to prevent the abuse of the networks. While there has been considerable research on creating and maintaining databases in networks, little research has been done on the behavioral dimensions that lead to the use or the refusal to use such systems. This paper will concern the setting up of an electronic network that will allow Catalonian biomedical researchers to intercommunicate on a professional level . Particular attention has been focused on information/communication needs and behavorial effects
