Genetics of yield components in diploid cotton.

1990
Additive genetic: variance was predominant for days to Dowering and days to boll bursting in the cross G. Cot. 11 X Kallu and for first sympodlal node No., monopodia/plant, sympodla/plant, bolls/plant, seeds/boll, and boll weight in the cross Dig. x 3493. Broad-sense heritability estimates were moderate to high for most of the characters. Narrow-sense heritability estimates were high for days to flower, days to boll bursting, sympodia/plant, bolls/plant, seed/boll, and seed cotton yield in both the populations. Expected genetic advance through full-sib family selections was 3–4 times greater than expected through mass selection. Such characters could, therefore, be further improved by Intrapopulatlon mass selection, full-sib family selection and selection for gca.
