In this interview, Edmond Alphandery highlights the exceptional progress of European integration over the last 50 years, while also pointing out the inability of certain countries to adapt and thus benefit fully from this integration. He suggests a number of ways to restimulate this process, which has lost much of its momentum, not only from a political and institutional point of view, but also an economic and monetary standpoint. To this end, the proposal of a « Euro Zone Treaty » is meant to be an instrument to institutionalise the Eurogroup’s authority and create an appropriate forum for discussing economic policy in the Euro Zone. .
