The invention discloses a novel method for testing the delay time of a detonator delay element. The novel method particularly comprises the following steps of packaging a delay element and a rubber plug with a fixed detonation elimination cavity into a delay element fixing piece, and fixing the fixed detonation elimination cavity together with a detonating tube installation hole below a fixed installation module coaxially; inserting a detonating tube into the fixed piece via the installation hole and the rubber plug, compressing the delay element, and clamping the rubber plug by a clamping device; sleeving the other end of the fixing piece by a movable installation module of black rubber; installing photoelectric sensors respectively above the two installation modules, and connecting with a digital oscilloscope; and after ignition, receiving a detonating tube inflammation signal by the first photoelectric sensor, receiving a delay element flaming signal by the other photoelectric sensor, and displaying the signal on the digital oscilloscope, wherein the time interval of two signal waves is the delay time of the delay element.
