A method, an apparatus, an unmanned aerial vehicle, a system, and a storage medium for controlling a movable object are provided. The method for controlling the movable object comprises: receiving a first signal representing a desired height of the movable object (S401); receiving a second signal representing a measured height of the movable object relative to the ground (S402); and obtaining a third signal according to a difference between the desired height and the measured height, in which the third signal is used to change the height of the movable object (S403). Therefore, when the terrain is complex and the tracked target goes uphill or downhill, the movable object tracks the target while maintaining a stable height relative to the target.
