Propagation of impulse in the heart of the beetle allomyrina dichotomus

1990
Abstract 1. 1. Propagation of impulse is studied electrophysiologically in the heart of an adult armed wrestler beetle. 2. 2. The velocity of propagation shows extensive range of values, for example, from 5.2 cm to 2100m/sec in a specimen at a temperature of 26.5°C. 3. 3. The propagation is considered to be the result of the alignment behavior of pacemakers as represented by a phase-response curve. 4. 4. The propagation may be derived from sequence of impulses generated spontaneously and successively from one pacemaker to an adjacent one with a short delay, the length of which may vary widely.
