Classification of Radioactivity Levels in the Regions of the World Ocean Using Compartment Modelling

2020
The time dependent concentrations of 137Cs calculated by compartment model POSEIDON-R for two ocean marine basins (Black Sea and northeastern Atlantic shelf) for period 1945–2020 were classified using the “etalon” method to provide representative distribution of the radionuclide monitoring data for these areas. Application of the classification method allowed to distinguish 4 regions for Black Sea and 11 regions for northeastern Atlantic shelf. The most representative for allocated regions “etalon” boxes were also determined. The developed approach can be used for selection of areas for long-term monitoring of radioactivity levels as most representative locations.
