Personality vs. Personalities

philosophy, i am a pluralist. I believe that there are innumerable independent universes within the cosmic pluriverse. I believe there are many parallel regimes, codes of ethics and creeds, each lustily damning the others, within our would-be monolithic "American Way of Life." I believe that under the painted veil of enforced customs in which the anthropologists find such delight, this is also true of the Zunis, the Samoans, the Trobrianders. Nay, I believe there are many minds, often at odds, within our single individual mind. God fulfills Himself in many ways, all past our understanding. But, on a less lofty and more definite plane, I am steadily for the singular against the plural. I am for liberty against liberties, which are privileges; for religion against religions, which are sects and heresies; for culture, the pursuit of our total perfection, against cultures, which are traditional conformities, the unwisdom of prejudice. In the same spirit, I am for personality self-knowledge and self-reliance against personalities autocrats, leaders, heroes, geniuses, prophets. For to be a follower of such personalities is to abdicate our own.
