Multibeam, laser-imploded cylindrical plasmas

Four orthogonal line-focused 351-nm beams have been used to implode 2-mm-long, 100-..mu..m-diam thin Al cylinders. The resulting linear, high-density, high-temperature plasma has characteristics suitable as an x-ray-laser medium.
