GONZALEZ NUNEZ, M., A. JIMENEZ ALVAREZ, F. SALOMONE, A. CARNERO, P. DEL ESTAL, J.R. ESTEBAN DURAN, 2002: Diocalandra frumenti (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a pest of palms recently introduced in Gran Canaria. First investigations about its biology and rearing in laboratory. Bol. San. Veg. Plagas, 28: 347-355. The Four-spotted Coconut Weevil (Diocalandra frumenti (F)) has been recently introduced in the Gran Canaria Island from Pacific and Indie areas and means an important risk for Canary Palm and other palms in the Canary Islands and others areas of Africa, Europe and America. In this work results of two laboratory rearing methods are presented. Using pieces of sugarcane (with ten couples during a week) an average of 4,2 adults/cane were obtained with durations of egg, larval and pupal development of 7,8, 76,2 and 10,2 days respectively. Rearing isolated larvae with four different artificial diets survival averages were 0%, 15,6%, 11,1% and 37,8% with larval development period of 73,2, 69,2 y 60,9 days.
