Morphology of Gustatory Organs

1976
In adult anurans taste organs have been found on the dorsal tongue surface and in the epithelial lining of the mouth. The oral organs consist of unusually large disc-shaped receptor areas. The gustatory function of these disc receptors was first demonstrated by Pumphrey (1935). The physiological diversity of taste sensations, however, has so far not been consolidated by an assortment of structurally different gustatory organs.
