Hydrogels based on gellan gum in cell delivery and drug delivery

2020
Abstract Gellan gum is a green biopolymer widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food industries as suspending, stabilizing, and thickening agent. It is able to form hydrogels with multivalent cations which absorb high volume of water or body fluids and adequately encapsulate drugs or cells in interstitial spaces among polymer chains. The investigation on cell delivery and drug delivery using gellan gum hydrogels has been expanded in many fields. So far no reports are available that summaries these advances. This article is focus to link that lacuna. In this review we attempt to discuss the recent work on gellan gum hydrogels for the delivery of drug and cell delivery to rejuvenate the tissue.
