Analysis on the social psychological factors influenced to the self-consistency and congruence of pilots

2009
Objective To analyze the characters of self-consistency and congruence of pilots and their influential factors in order to provide counseling and psychotherapy as reference. Methods Four hundred and twenty eight pilots were evaluated on self-consistency and congruence scale (SCCS), life events scale (LES), perceived social support scale (PSSS), social avoidance and distress scale (SADS), trait coping styles questionnaire (TCSQ), Eysenck personality questionnaire for adults (EPQ) and symptom checklist 90 (SCL 90) when they were in sanatorium. Such analysis as F test, t test, Spearman correlation and pathway were implemented. Results Self-inconsistency and incongruence and self-stiffness of pilots were lower than those of army force men (2.45≤t≤13. 10, P<0.05 or P<0.01) while self-flexibility was higher (t=5.11, 11.98, P<0.01). The high correlations between self-inconsistency and the factors of the SCL-90 (0.330≤r≤0.446, P<0.01), self-inconsistency and incongruence and the neuroticism of EPQ (r=0.498, P<0.01) were observe& Different temperamental type of pilots showed difference in self-inconsistency (F=1.540, P<0.05). Correlation between self-flexibility and all the factors of PSSS showed relative higher value (0.212≤r≤0.377, P<0.01). Highest correlation (r=0.445, P<0.01) was showed between the factor of self-inconsistency and incongruence and negative family event. That factor and self-stiffness were also highly correlated to negative coping style respectively (r=0.595, 0.434, P<0.01). Same to the correlation with social distress (r=0.456, P<0.01). The results of the path way analysis revealed that the negative life events would influenced most to the self-inconsistency and incongruence of pilots (B=0.53), then the state of mentality (B=0.40). Conclusion The pilot's mentality health would be improved by enhancing the care of negative life events and mental health service.
