Diagnostic and Therapeutic Drainage

Interventional ultrasound is increasing in popularity over the past decade as ultrasound technology has significantly improved. Many articles have come out about the use of ultrasound in diagnosis and therapeutic drainage of fluid collections throughout the body. In this chapter, we describe the various locations for collection of fluid, along with an approach to drainage, and avoiding potential pitfalls and preventing complications. We highlight patient preparation and technical considerations for each type of collection.
