Rooming in and mother-infant skin-to-skin contact: A reflection

BACKGROUND A healthy full-term newborn should be kept in skin-to-skin contact with their mother who has had a vaginal delivery or caesarean section with epidural anesthesia soon after birth or as soon as possible. Rooming in is defined as the stay of the newborn and the mother in the same room for as long as possible during the 24 hours. DISCUSSION The purpose of this commentary article is to discuss and generate reflections on the consequences that Covid-19 is generating ad it is changing the life and pre and postnatal experience of many mothers and babies as well as their families by affecting the early contact, the mother-infant dyad, the breastfeeding.
