The\bar KN system near thresholdsystem near threshold

1989
The analysis of K−p elastic, charge exchange and inelastic scattering normally involves the use of a large number of parameters (twelve or more in the case of the K-matrix with energy dependence). Some of these parameters are badly determined and models with fewer parameters include the constant scattering length model and the cloudy bag model (CBM). The latter involves a great deal of calculation but requires very few parameters and can be used to predict other measurable quantities such as the branching ratio for K−p→Λγ and K−p→Σγ. The CBM and other potential models have been put into a new calculation which uses the smooth relativistic two-body propagator of Cooper and Jennings. One of the conclusions is not a new one: that it is important to have new experimental data and complete the analysis of the\(\bar K\)N system near threshold. Two low-energy kaon experiments which will help to achieve this are discussed.
