Issues of social acceptance on sustainable biofuel development

The highly dependent on fossil fuel as primary energy source in transportation has awaken the global community with issues surrounding the environmental and energy security. Alternative fuel and improvement of engine technology has been carried out to reduce dependency of transportation vehicles on fossil fuel. Among these, biofuel has emerged as one of the attractive options to substitute the depleted fossil fuel. While various efforts have been carried out to improve the technical aspects of biofuel, the non-technical aspect – social acceptance has received less attention. This paper has the intention to highlight issues related to social acceptance of this biofuel. By referring to the Triangular Model of Acceptance, understanding on issues related to social acceptance can improve the development pathway of biofuel.
