The embodiment of the invention discloses a method for intercepting advertisements. The method comprises the steps that an index file of a video is obtained, wherein the video is segmented into a plurality of video clips, and the index file at least comprises URLs of the video clips; according to the obtained index file, whether the index file includes URLs of clips of an advertisement video or not is determined; the URLs of the clips of the advertisement video are removed, and the URLs of other video clips are recombined to form a new index file; according to the new index file, the video is played. The embodiment of the invention further discloses a terminal for intercepting the advertisements. By the adoption of the method and terminal for intercepting the advertisements, the advertisements in the video can be effectively intercepted, and the usage experience of a user is improved.
