PhI(OAc)2/KI-Mediated Reaction of Aryl Sulfinates with Alkenes, Alkynes, and α,β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds: Synthesis of Vinyl Sulfones and β-Iodovinyl Sulfones.

Title reaction proceeds under mild conditions for a wide range of terminal aromatic or aliphatic alkenes bearing electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents to give the corresponding vinyl sulfones, e.g. (III), (VII) or (IX), as E-isomers in most cases [except for Z-isomer (V) and isomeric mixture (XI)/(XII)].
