Human Aspects of Visual Information Systems
1980
Let me begin by explaning what is meant by “two-way.” In the first place, it may be said that information transmission originated in interactive dialog between sender and receiver. But the means of information transmission have developed with heavy emphasis on the sender side, which has led to the growth of overlarge one-way systems with little feedback from the receiver side, in other words, to the development of mass communication media such as radio, television, newspaper and magazine. Among them, television provides such a quantity of visual information that it has tremendous influence on society.
