The synthesis and crystal structure of a novel cubane-like complex of the MoAgS series: {MoAg3S3Cl}(PPh3)3O

Abstract A novel MoAgS cubane-like complex, {MoAg 3 S 3 Cl}(PPh 3 ) 3 O, has been synthesized from AgCl, PPh 3 and Mo 2 O 2 S(S 2 ) 4 2− in appropriate conditions, and its X-ray crystal structure determined. The complex comprises one cubane-like cluster core {MoAg 3 S 3 Cl} 2+ , three PPh 3 ligands attached to each silver atom and one terminal oxo ligand attached to the molybdenum atom [1.67(1) A]. The mean distance of the molybdenum and silver atoms is 2.980(2) A, which is too long to effectively bond. The bond lengths of the three AgCl bonds are in the same range and average to 2.810(4) A.
