Addressing the subject of implementation of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) elimination programs in Europe is important because, among the many European countries, onty a few have partially or totally solved the problem. In the identification of the determinants of successful actions versus failure to start or to implement IDD elimination programs, this paper will briefly review 1) the nature of tne motivation factors needed tor decision making 2) the type of preventive interventions which will contribute to IDD elimination 3) the organisational structures, including the communication components, which have to be set up for implementing these interventions and programs (1, 2).
