Reference electrode successively comprising, within an internal cavity (2) of a housing (1), an active material comprising particles of a silver compound and a porous material impregnated with an electrolytic solution, and with a silver wire ( 4) fixed to a bottom of the internal cavity (2) and partially embedded in said active material and with said internal cavity (2) closed by a closure plug (10) forming a porous liquid junction, electrode characterized in that said compound of Silver is an insoluble silver salt or oxide containing the negative ion of said electrolytic solution, said active material is made of a paste (8) constituted by a powder of said silver compound and said electrolytic solution, and said impregnated porous material (9) is mechanically compressed by said closure plug (10).
