A leaf replica technique to isolate avirulent biotypes in leaf rusts

A leaf disk replica inoculation from a susceptible to a resistant cultivar of poplar has been employed in vitro to isolate avirulent biotypes of Melampsora medusae from mixtures of virulent and avirulent types of the rust.
