Theoretical Discussion on the Formative Evaluation of College English

By diagnosing the schemes or plans of education,and the problems existed in educating process and activities,formative evaluation is providing back-coupling information for the on-going educating activities so as to improve the evaluation of the activities.For this reason,the triple aspects of students' self-estimation,of students' mutual estimation and of teachers' estimation should be well combined.Abiding by the principles of main-body nature,multivariate nature,development nature and open nature,teachers are supposed to work out evaluation standards and grades,to organize the evaluation process,and to provide necessary appraising methods and skills.
