Ad Hoc Service Grid

2004
The provisioning of location-specific services in medium-sized facilities like shopping malls, hospitals, and trade fares using WLAN access points or cellular phone systems has some drawbacks. It is rather inflexible or results in high running costs. We propose a new self-organizing infrastructure called Ad hoc Service Grid (ASG) that is based on a mobile ad hoc network to resolve these issues. In this paper, we define the necessary concepts, structures and components for realizing ASGs. We present our approach to building a Serviceware that enables an AGS to self-organize. We evaluate the effectiveness of our mechanisms for service migration, replication, and lookup based on simulation results.
