Polycondensation of 4-(ClC6H4)2X (X=S, SO2, CO) and (ClC6H4)2 monomers under the action of metallic lithium☆

Abstract A study has been made of the polycondensation of bis-(4-chlorophenyl)sulphide, bis-(4-chlorophenyl)sulphone and bis-(4-chlorophenyl)ketone under the action of metallic lithium. It was found that metal-organic compounds and free radicals are present simultaneously in the reaction mixture. A scheme of polycondensation is proposed for bis-(4-chlorophenyl)sulphide under the action of metallic lithium. A stage of one-electron transfer is included in the scheme. The reactivity of the monomers is determined by the electron-donor capacity of the inter-ring bridge.
