PERFORMANCE SIMULATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF ENGINE-EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT DEVICES VEHICLE SYSTEM

1981
The optimization of a three-way-catalyst engine-vehicle system's specifications for maximum fuel economy under the constraints of emission and driveability, has been studied for a small passenger car with a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine. A computer was fully utilized to accumulate basic data and research the optimum calibration. As a result, the automatic engine test system (aets) was developed. The optimum calibration was calculated based on the optimal control theory for an engine-vehicle system with three-way catalyst, and was employed in an actual vehicle by an engine controller in which a 16-bit microprocessor was used. The results showed good agreement. (Author/TRRL)
