The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is a national agency responsible for water monitoring in the Czech Republic. The operation of the monitoring networks, data collection and their primary processing and storage in databases comprise basic activities of the hydrological service. Historically, the engagement of CHMI in water quality monitoring started in 1963, and was gradually developed into a state monitoring network of presently about 260 surface water and 460 groundwater sampling sites (see Figure 1).
