TRATAMIENTO CONSERVADOR DE LA RECESIÓN GINGIVAL EN PACIENTES PEDIÁTRICOS. REPORTE DE TRES CASOS CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT OF GINGIVAL RECESSION IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS. REPORT OF THREE CASES.

2010
Gingival Recession (GR) is the apical shift of the marginal gingiva. Prevalence in pediatric patients is low, and its most frequent location is the buccal aspect of mandibular incisors. The etiology of this condition is multifactorial, and includes malocclusion, traumatic occlusion, abnormal frennum insertion an oral habits. For young patients, treatment focuses on eliminating the causative factors. Three cases involving pediatric patientsare presented, all were successfully treated at the Interceptive Orthodontics Clinic, Pediatric Dentistry Postgraduate Program, UCV. They presented with GR affecting the buccal aspect of mandibular incisors, associated with local irritants, crowding, inappropriate occlusal contacts and anterior crossbite. A conservative treatment approach was successful including oral hygiene techniques, and correction of occlusal contacts, crowding and crossbite. Clinical improvement was observed. The importance of early diagnosis and prompt conservative treatment are emphasized, in order to successfully manage GR and improve longterm prognosis.
