Beam Steering of Series-fed Patch Array Using Frequency and Phase Variation Near 76.5 GHz

2018
The frequency scanning technique is proposed for use in the automotive radar to achieve beam steering in the elevation direction. A series-fed patch array antenna is implemented and used for validation. A two-dimensional array is formed by adding three more of the same antennas, and the beam steering capability both in the elevation and azimuth directions is demonstrated. The radiation patterns are observed nearly constant for both the frequency and phase variations as desired in the automotive radar applications.
