The invention discloses a gesture input method and electronic equipment. The method comprises the following steps of acquiring the information and moving direction information of an operating body image in a gesture input area through an image acquisition unit; when the operating body image moves to the boundary of the gesture input area, judging whether the moving speed of the operating body image is higher than a preset speed or not, so as to obtain a first judgment result; when the first judgment result shows that the moving speed of the operating body image is higher than the preset speed, switching a gesture input information processing unit to a second state; and when the operating body image moves along the moving direction shown by the moving direction information again, switching the gesture input information processing unit to a first state. With the adoption of the gesture input method or electronic equipment, disclosed by the invention, a cursor can be concisely and accurately controlled to continuously move in one direction.
