An Effective AVR-PSS Design for Electromechanical Oscillations Damping in Power System

AVR stabilizes the terminal voltage of generator by controlling the exciter voltage. Fast action of AVR exciter module may cause negative damping of the system .With the presence of PSS, the oscillation occurred due to sudden AVR action has been suppressed. This paper emphasis the importance of AVR- PSS model in power system for damping the low frequency oscillation. The proposed model has been tested in Single Machine and Two area Four Machine system. The simulation analysis is performed using MATLAB and PSAT. The AVR-PSS model gives a better damping of electromechanical oscillations and improves the small signal stability.
