Wavelength-coded Image transmission
1983
Wavelength multiplexing can be used to transmit entire images or portions of images in parallel through optical fibers. In this method, each image pixel is illuminated with a different wavelength. The wavelength-coded picture information can then propagate in parallel through an optical fiber. The light emerging from the fiber is spatially rearranged in accordance with wavelength to assemble the output image. Three different systems will be de- scribed here which employ different sources, detectors, electronics, and multiplexing optics.
