Price premiums for terminal sires with superior LAMBPLAN EBVs.

The relationship between ram price and LAMBPLAN estimated breeding values (EBVs) on 1773 flock rams auctioned at on-property sales at four studs over varying years from 1989 to 1996 were analysed. For Stud 1, where considerable client education has been undertaken, the regression coefficients of price on EBVweight ranged from 16 to 25 $/kg EBV from 1990 to 1993 and were 46 to 54 $/kg EBV for 1994 to 1996. The corresponding regression coefficients amongst the other three studs for various years ranged from 3 to 3 1 $/kg EBVweight. The regressions for EBVfat were generally significant and varied with years, but explained considerably less variation in ram price than EBVweight.
