Summary of Chapter 5: Clinicopathological Aspects of Inherited Colorectal Cancer Syndromes

1990
This workshop dealt with clinical and pathological aspects of various inherited syndromes which predispose to colorectal carcinoma. The speakers addressed intestinal and extraintestinal tumors in adenomatous polyposis syndrome, and malignancy in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. The characteristics of flat adenomas of the large bowel were presented. Three papers relating to hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer discussed the histopathological features of the tumors, and crypt atrophy and cellular immune responses in the large bowel mucosa of patients with the syndrome. The final presentations dealt with carbohydrate-associated antigens and interphasic nucleolar organizer regions in neoplastic and non-neoplastic colorectal mucosa.
