The Clinical of Ocular Burns

2011
Some anatomical and physiological review allows a better understanding of the early signs following an ocular chemical splash. The importance of perilimbal ischemia in the establishment of an initial severity prognosis is emphasized according to the Ropper Hall classification into 4 distinct grades. Edema and corneal ulcerations are illustrated by photographs taken during the author's daily practice. The clinical ocular examination is detailed both at the initial stage and during the course of the burn evolution. These render possible a pragmatic classification between benign lesions and severe lesions involving both the external and internal structures of the eye. This chapter is fundamental for understanding the ultimate therapeutic aspects, notably surgical.
