Influence of Plant Growth Regulators by Seed Treatment on Yield and Quality of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) cv. GAO-5.

2016
A field experiment was conducted at RegionalHorticultural Research Station, ACHF, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat) during kharif season of 2013–14 for evaluating the effect of different seed treatment by PGR's on germination and growth of okra. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and 11 treatments. Seed treatments by different PGR's had significant effect on the yield and yield attributes. Treatment T2 (GA3 @ 20 ppm) has resulted in the higher values of yield attributes viz., pod length (15.22 cm), number of pods per plant (24.75), pod weight (15.63 g), pod yield kg per plant (0.38 kg) and pod yield kg per hectare (21164 kg). Remarkable improvement in the quality parameters viz., fiber % (9.01%), chlorophyll content (1.84 mg/g.) and ascorbic acid (11.13 mg/100g) were observed in the treatment T2 (GA3 @ 20 ppm).
