Rauschenbusch, Walter (1861–1918)

American. Born in Rochester, New York, October 4, 1861, to August, an immigrant German Baptist clergyman and educator, and Caroline. He was the last of four children, one of whom died before Walter was born. His upbringing was shaped by the Pietism of his parents, as well as the time he spent in Germany with his mother and sisters from 1865 to 1869. He pursued his education both in Germany and the USA, eventually completing his B.A. in 1884 at the University of Rochester, and finishing at the top of his class at Rochester Theological Seminary in 1886.
