Incorporation of high /spl mu//spl beta/ chromophores into 3-D networks via double-end crosslinking (DEC)

1997
Double-end crosslinking (DEC) strategy has been demonstrated to be very effective to lock the ordered alignment of chromophores in organic second-order nonlinear optical materials. The relatively mild lattice hardening condition makes it suitable for high /spl mu//spl beta/ chromophores, which usually can not survive in harsh reaction conditions. Here, we propose a new DEC strategy where acceptors can be attached to the donor-bridge in a 3-D network after radical polymerization. This strategy offers potential advantage such as good poling efficiency, good temporal stability of dipole alignment and low loss. In this paper, we wish to report the successful synthesis of trifunctional donor-bridges and progress toward double-end crosslinking of high /spl mu//spl beta/ chromophores.
