Effect of Cerium Dioxide on the Wear Properties of Laser Cladding NiCrBSi Alloy Coatings under Sliding Friction

2007
Four kinds of coatings have been prepared on the surface of 45CrNi steel plates using laser cladding technique by adding CeO2 into the NiCrBSi alloys. The wear behaviours of these four kinds of coatings in sliding against Al2O3 grinding ring are investigated by using a MM-200 Wear Tester. The results indicate that the addition of CeO2 can improve the wear resistance of coatings, and the coefficients of friction appreciably decrease.SEM images of the worn surface of the coatings show that the wear of without CeO2 coating is dominated by the mechanism of micro-cutting,and the coating with 1.2% CeO2 exhibits relatively smooth worn surface and the furrows are shallower. The wear test results are closely related to the microstructures of the coatings.
