Resolution of discrete Time Fourier transition and extension of uniform linear array algorithm for direction of arriving estimation

2010
The paper describes that for a uniform linear array (ULA), discrete Time Fourier transform (DTFT) based direction of arrival (DOA) estimation relies on knowledge of the power spectral density (PSD). Discrete Fourier transform (DFT) with zero padding follows DTFT algorithm, which finally reaches resolution of space frequency. We present a novel approach for signal tracking, which updates the signal PSD for each DTFT coefficient in the presence of both signal and noise. This method is based on the eigenvalue decomposition of correlation matrices that are constructed from snapshots of time series of array sensors. The Extended ULA method proposed in this paper has high resolution to much closed plain wave signals of DOA.
