Interaction of solid hydrogen pellets with the plasma in the L-2 stellarator
1982
Experiments on the interaction of the plasma in the L-2 stellarator with a solid hydrogen pellet are described. The evaporation and ionization of the solid hydrogen can quadruple the average plasma density. The average plasma density n-bar/sub e/approx.2 x 10/sup 13/ cm/sup -3/ was obtained at a central electron temperature T/sub e/(0) = 280 +- 30 eV and at an ion temperature T/sub i/(0)approx.100 eV. The impurity level and the radiative loss are lower than in corresponding discharges with pulsed gas injection.
