Tolerância de Mycobacterium abscessus subsp. bolletii a desinfetantes de alto nível Tolerance of Mycobacterium abscessus subsp. bolletii to high-level

2012
Mycobacterium abscessus subps. bolletii (BRA100 clone), among others rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM), has been isolated from patients with localized and systemic infections in Brazil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the RGM susceptibility to glutaraldehyde-, peracetic acid- and orthophtalaldehyde-based disinfectants by means of Confirmative Test for Determining Mycobactericidal Activity of Disinfectants . Five clinical strains belonging to the clone BRA100, and the reference strains M. abscessus ATCC 19977, M. chelonae ATCC 35752, M. fortuitum ATCC 6841, M. abscessus subps. bolletii INCQS 00594 were evaluated. Three glutaraldehyde-based disinfectants were ineffective to M. abscessus and M. abscessus subps. bolletii. The peracetic acid-based disinfectants showed effectiveness for all evaluated mycobacteria, although BRA100 isolates evidenced a reduced susceptibility to peracetic acid B. Orthophtalaldehyde-based product was effective to M. chelonae only. In order to reduce the nosocomial infections, it is suggested to discontinue the use of glutaraldehyde-based products, as high-level disinfectant, for any purpose whatever.
